An Atlantic City man was arrested after he shot himself and then claimed it was an unknown assailant, police said.
Police were called to the 1600 block of Beach Avenue at 8:36 Tuesday morning for the report of a man shot, Lt. Kevin Fair said.
Henry Alvarez, 18, said he was walking to the store when an unknown individual shot him, causing a wound to his finger, according to the report.
He was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus for treatment.
An investigation then led to Alvarez's home, where police found a handgun, spent shell casing and blood, Fair said.
He was arrested at the hospital and later taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
Alvarez is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of hollow-point ammunition and possession of a defaced firearm.
