Fugitive arrested in fatal Atlantic City stabbing

  • News

A Philadelphia man wanted in the killing of his girlfriend inside a casino hotel room has been arrested.

Frankie Lane, 59, turned himself in Monday night, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner said.

Lane is accused of fatally stabbing 57-year-old Sharon Whaley inside the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino room the two checked into Thursday night.

Whaley was found dead inside the room Friday, with a sheet covering her and a knife on top, the affidavit states.

“I want to thank all of the law enforcement agencies which worked cooperatively to quickly identify and apprehend this suspect," Tyner said. "We continue to work diligently in order to obtain more answers as to why this tragedy occurred, so that we can pursue justice for the deceased and her family.”

Surveillance video shows Lane leaving the room alone at 11:01 Friday morning, carrying a gray and black bag. That bag was later found in a trash can, with a white shirt that appeared to have blood stains, according to the affidavit.

Lane went to the bus terminal and got a ticket home to Philadelphia.

He is currently in the Atlantic County Justice Facility awaiting a detention hearing.
