An Atlantic City teen who was wanted in a shooting will remain jailed pending the outcome of his case.
Yasin Sanders, 18, is accused of wounding a woman Oct. 23, when he shot a gun in the 400 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. drive.
Sanders was on release pending drug and gun charges in a Nov. 18 raid at his home when police tied him to the earlier shooting.
Police were called to the scene by a ShotSpotter audio gunshot-detection alert at 9:45 p.m., and found the 25-year-old woman with a graze wound, according to the initial report.
Sanders shot into a vehicle, with no indication that the woman wounded was a target, according to information released in court Thursday.
Sanders and a 15-year-old from Bridgeton are charged in the shooting, along with the earlier drug and gun case. That teen's name is not being released due to his age. He was being held in the Harborfields Juvenile Detention Center.
Defense attorney Melissa Rosenblum argued for his release, noting that Sanders has abided by the terms of his release on the earlier charge, with no issues in the three months he was on release.
But Superior Court Judge Sara Beth Johnson said that the circumstances of the case are different this time, since the gun was used and a bystander injured.
"There's nothing I can put in place that will protect basically the community at large," she said.
Sanders covered his eyes and leaned back in his seat as the judge made her ruling.
Rosenblum also indicated that the case against Sanders is not strong.
"There are connections to other people but not really any strong evidence against my client," she said.
