A registered sex offender living in Atlantic City is now charged with possession of child pornography.
Cory Newman, now 44, was sentenced to 51 months in federal prison in 2007, in a similar case.
Newman was arrested Thursday, after Homeland Security agents searched his home in the 1300 block of Pacific Avenue, and recovered electronic devices containing video and images of minor girls being sexually abused, according to the complaint.
Newman admitted to using a seized laptop to download the videos from a peer-to-peer network, the complaint states.
He also said he stored child pornography files on an external hard drive.
Because he was previously convicted of child pornography, the charge carries an enhanced mandatory minimum of 10 years n prison, with a maximum of 20 years. He also could fact a find of as much as $250,000.
Although Newman is a registered sex offender, his name does not appear in the public registry online. This is not unusual as not all sex offenders are required to be listed there.
NOTE: Federal mugshots are not released to the public.
