Ocean City police sergeant indicted in years of sexual abuse of teen

  • News

An Ocean City police sergeant accused of sexually abusing a teenager for years has been indicted.

Tyrone Rolls, formerly honored as a “pillar of the community,” kissed the girl for the first time in his patrol car the day before she started her sophomore year at Ocean City High School in 2016, according to the affidavit previously reported by BreakingAC.

The relationship allegedly continued, with the two having intercourse for the first time when she was 16 at his Marmora home.

Rolls, now 50, was indicted on a first-degree charge of aggravated sexual assault, two counts of second-degree official misconduct, and a count each of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child and third-degree aggravated assault of a domestic violence victim.

He served on the department for almost 25 years.

Rolls struck the woman with an open hand during a verbal altercation around Dec. 31, 2020 or Jan. 1, 2021, the affidavit claims.

The victim, now 20, told police she stayed on the ground, fearful that he would strike her again.

“Now you know what it is like to be hit,” he allegedly told the woman when he hit her.

Rolls was placed on administrative leave.

He is no longer in the Cape May County jail.
