An Atlantic City man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the rape of a 5-year-old girl who was in his care.
Eliseo Jiminez Ramirez, 36, pleaded guilty in July to first degree aggravated sexual assault.
Ramirez admitted to sexually assaulting the young girl from 2015 to 2016.
In his pre-sentencing evaluation, he told the doctor he tried to stop himself from abusing her but continued to do so, Assistant Prosecutor Erika Halayko told the judge.
Despite that, the doctor did not find Ramirez to be compulsive, but the state disagreed with that evaluation, Halayko said.
Ramirez did not express remorse for his actions nor does he appear to be seeking treatment, she added.
"It does not appear that he thinks he has a problem, your honor," she told Judge Bernard DeLury.
Ramirez is related to the girl.
The judge denied a motion by the defense to reduce the sentence to eight years.
Ramirez must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence, or 8½ years. He also will have to register under Megan's Law with lifetime supervision.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office did not respond to requests seeking a photo of the convicted sex offender.
