Atlantic City man held in stabbing

  • News

An Atlantic City man arrested for stabbing a man in the chest during a fight was ordered held in jail Monday.

Korahn Hinson, 47, is accused of pulling a knife after the 23-year-old victim punched him during a fight over a shower, according to information given during his detention hearing.

Officer Joseph Kelly Jr. saw the victim running without a shirt and then suddenly collapse in the street around 5:15 p.m. March 26.

The officer applied a chest seal to the puncture wound, and was credited with helping save the victim's life.

Hinson had just been released from prison last April, after serving a sentence for kidnapping. His prior convictions also include second-degree robbery and assaults.

Hinson has a heart condition and is not getting his proper medication in jail, defense attorney Omar Aguilar told the judge in arguing for release.

But Assistant Prosecutor Kristen Pulkstenis said that arguing a heart condition considering the victim was stabbed in the chest "rings hollow."

Aguilar also argued that Hinson's actions were in response to him being hit, and that he stabbed the victim once in self-defense.

Judge Dorothy Garrabrant called the response "disproportionate" before ordering Hinson held.

The stabbing happened inside a residence in the 1700 block of Logan Street, Atlantic City police previously said.

Hours earlier, gunshots were fired in that area. But police have not publicly confirmed if there was a connection.

It was not clear to those in court whether Hinson was still on parole for his prior sentence.

He will remain in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
