Atlantic City man ordered held in drug and gun case

  • News

An Atlantic City man allegedly found with a gun and drugs in his car will stay in jail, a judge ruled.

Hameed Farmer, 30, was arrested earlier this month after he tried to flee a car stop in Atlantic City, according to the charges.

The stop began in the 3300 block of Fairmount Avenue, but Farmer then fled west, eventually stopping about two blocks away, according to the report.

Police found a revolver, along with about six grams of cocaine, 280 grams of marijuana and about $400 in cash believed to be from drug sales inside the vehicle, police said at the time.

Guns and drugs are a scourge on the community, Judge William Miller said.

“(The gun is) not there for self-defense, it’s there because he’s in the distribution industry,” the judge said. “He may use it … if the distribution industry poses a threat to him.”

Farmer was driving at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out without a turn signal and went through a red light before he was stopped, according to the police report.

His passenger, Christina Lockett, was also charged but released days later.

Farmer, 30, had pending charges that include hindering and terroristic threats at the time of his arrest.

Farmer’s attorney argued that he does not have a violent history and was employed at the Tropicana Atlantic City.

“The fact is, it involved a gun and distribution in Atlantic City, which is a scourge on the community,” the judge said.
