Three Atlantic City girls charged in an Egg Harbor Township theft spree cut off their monitoring bracelets and committed more crimes, police said.
The latest day of crime went through at least three Atlantic County towns and ended in a crash on West Jersey Avenue that injured the other drive, and landed one of the juveniles in the hospital.
They were released on home detention with ankle bracelets.
But on Feb. 3, they cut off their monitors and went on another spree in another vehicle, which had been reported stolen from Atlantic City, Per said.
The girls allegedly used the vehicle to go to the Hamilton Mall, where they reportedly stole more than $600 worth of shoes from Rare Pairs, Per said.
Egg Harbor Township learned of that incident after the black Nissan Rogue fled a motor vehicle stop at about 3 p.m. on Washington Avenue near the Garden State Parkway, according to the report. There was no pursuit for safety reasons.
About a half-hour later, police were called to the Dollar General on English Creek Avenue for three juveniles who were there shoplifting and smoking marijuana inside the store, Per said.
Patrol responded, but the girls had already left.
A short time later, the vehicle crashed on West Jersey Avenue, injuring Township resident Mark Hewitt, 51.
While investigating the crash, police got a call from Chickie's and Pete's about three juveniles who racked up a $160 food bill, and the left without paying, Per said.
One of the girls was hospitalized with serious injuries from the crash. The other two are being lodged in the Ocean County Juvenile Detention Center.
The incidents are being investigated by Officer Robert Moran of the Egg Harbor Township Police Department’s Traffic Unit and Detective Paul Janetta of the Egg Harbor Township Police Department Criminal Investigations Bureau. Anyone with information is asked to call the Criminal Investigations Bureau at 609-926-4051.
