Couple found in stolen SUV with items taken from Galloway vehicles, police say

  • Crime-Courts

An Atlantic County man and woman were found keeping items they stole from Galloway Township vehicle burglaries in an SUV that was also stolen, police said.

Sean Torres and Johana Campos-Mendoza were arrested Wednesday, a day after five vehicles were burglarized in the Collins Road area in Galloway Township, according to police.

They were found inside a stolen SUV with several items reported stolen in the burglaries, police said.

Police thanked the quick reporting of the crimes by residents, and "the diligent work of our officers" for the arrests.

The SUV was stolen after it was left unlocked with the key fob inside, according to the report.

Torres, 36, of Galloway Township is charged with possession of stolen property, resisting arrest and obstruction of justice.

Campos-Mendoza, 28, of Atlantic City, is charged with possession of stolen property.

Additional charges are pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.

Police used the incident to remind people to lock their car doors and not leave their key fobs inside.

About 50 vehicles are reported stolen everyday in the state.  In almost every case, the crime starts with a car door that was left unlocked, police said.
