An ATV driver was arrested Saturday after he struck a police car while allegedly fleeing the officer.
Marcus Langford, 32, of Atlantic City, was driving his yellow Suzuki ATV recklessly south on New Road as he passed at least 20 vehicles stopped in traffic, Capt. Stacey Schlachter said.
Sgt. Ryan VanSyckle witnessed the incident at about 4:30 p.m., according to the report.
Langford stopped for the red signal at the Black Horse Pike and could not cross due to traffic congestion in the area, Schlachter said. VanSyckle was able to position his marked patrol unit directly in front of the ATV to prevent Langford from continuing south.
When Langford attempted to flee by turning, he struck the passenger side of the marked patrol vehicle, causing minor damage to the car, according to the report. The ATV stalled.
Langford was taken into custody without incident.
He was charged with third-degree attempting to elude police, fourth-degree criminal mischief and several motor vehicle citations. Langford was released on a summons.
