Atlantic City man gets four years in domestic assault

  • News

An Atlantic City man was sentenced to four years in prison for strangulation during a domestic violence incident in January.

Rahshamir Skinner, 21, pleaded guilty to strangulation of a domestic violence victim and terroristic threats.

Police were called to a residence Jan. 21, for the report of a violent assault, Atlantic County Prosecutor Will Reynolds said.

Skinner fled with a knife when officers arrived.

He must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence under the No Early Release Act.

October was Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention Month.

This was one of more than 1,200 domestic violence victims the Prosecutor’s Office serviced this year. Nearly a quarter involved violation of a restraining order.

The investigation was conducted by the Atlantic City Police Department. Assistant Prosecutor David Little represented the state.
