AtlantiCare offered a preview of its new Medical Arts Pavilion on Tuesday.
The $38.3 million facility was specifically developed to enhance access to quality care for the Atlantic City community.
It is one of the many ways the organization says it is increasing access to care by addressing health disparities, social determinants of health and the national physician shortage.
The facility will also be the new home base of AtlantiCare’s Medical Education Program, with classrooms, resident workspace and a state-of-the-art Simulation Center.
There were tours for AtlantiCare staff and local, state and federal leaders. The day also included a reception for dozens of artists from throughout the state who contributed to the 220 original works installed throughout the building.
“This is a special day in the history of AtlantiCare where we recommit the purpose and the meaning of being all in in Atlantic City,” said AtlantiCare President and CEO Lori Herndon.
“I am so proud we are opening the Medical Arts Pavilion right here where the hospital was first born,” she said of the location at 7 S. Ohio Ave. “This is the place where care is going to make a difference and healing is going to make an impact every day.”
The pavilion is expected to open to patients in December, pending final approvals from the state Department of Health.
The three-story, 69,700-square-foot facility will include AtlantiCare’s Maternal Fetal Medicine, Family Planning and Safe Beginnings programs, with a neonatal intensive care transition of care clinic. There will be federally qualified health care pediatrics, family medicine teaching and dental clinics.
