A Camden County man was sentenced to five years in prison for eluding Galloway Township police.
Charleston Carter, 33, of Clementon, was seen in the left turn lane at the intersection of the White Horse Pike and and Sixth Avenue.
Police saw that both he and the passenger were asleep. As they approached the driver’s side window, Carter opened his eyes, according to the report.
While being questioned, Carter put the car in drive and nearly ran over officer as he sped across four lanes of traffic.
The vehicle was found a short time later in the parking lot of the Deluxe Inn.
Carter ran from the car and was later captured by K-9 officers.
