A Monmouth County man has been arrested in the assault of a police officer during the chaos at an unsanctioned car rally in Wildwood last month.
Joshua Bocchino, 19, of Long Branch, is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and obstruction of justice.
The public acted quickly in alerting police to his identity Thursday.
Bocchino was arrested at his West End Avenue home that same day.
He was taken to the Cape May County Jail. He was released after court Thursday, jail records show.
Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland and Wildwood Police Chief Robert Regalbuto commended the detectives who continue to work to investigate the criminal events that took place at the H2Oicar rally.
“We are continuing to review video footage and receive tips from the public to make sure we charge all the individuals who are
identified as criminal actors during riotous and reckless events that took place during the (Sept. 24) weekend,” Sutherland said.
Detectives continue to look for a car and driver involved in a near-deadly crash with a golf cart.
