An Atlantic City man is jailed in the killing of a man last week.
Rahmir Bethea, 33, is charged with conspiracy to commit murder in the fatal shooting of Tyrone Ford.
Ford, 21, was found dead in Atlantic Avenue just before 2 a.m. Oct. 19.
Bethea was arrested the next day, BreakingAC has learned. Nothing was made public about the arrest.
Bethea was arrested after investigators found a gray Ford Escape matching the description of the vehicle seen leaving the scene in the rear lot of a home in the 200 block of North Delaware Avenue, according to the affidavit of probable cause.
The vehicle is registered to Bethea’s girlfriend, who lives at that address with him, the affidavit states.
Video in the area shows Bethea and two other men leaving the home and getting into the Escape. One of them is holding a rifle, the affidavit states, although it does not indicate whether it’s Bethea.
He gets into the driver’s seat. The vehicle leaves the parking area, and is later seen on Atlantic Avenue near Virginia Avenue just before the shooting, according to the affidavit.
A vehicle then matching the Escape’s description is seen slowing down and swerving into the center lane where the shell casings were later located, the affidavit states.
The vehicle flees the area and is seen heading north on Martin Luther King Boulevard toward Route 30.
The Ford Escape is seen returning to the Delaware Avenue residence at 2:20 a.m., and Bethea is seen exiting the vehicle and going into the residence.
A warranted search of the home later that day found Bethea and his girlfriend, whose name is blacked out in the affidavit.
In a statement to detectives, Bethea said he was the only one driving the Escape that night.
He was set to have a detention hearing Friday, but that was postponed to next week as the defense waits on more information.
Bethea remains in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
