Video tip leads to animal cruelty arrest in Atlantic City

  • News

An Atlantic City man is accused of beating his dog with a metal pipe.

Police received a tip last week via the city's anonymous texting application, tip411, claiming Troy Hollis had struck his pit bull multiple times, Lt. Kevin Fair said. An undated video was also sent, showing the abuse.

It could not be determined from the video that it was Hollis, according to the report.

Officers Matthew Crosby and Dion Liu went to Hollis' home and spoke with him, Fair said. The dogs appeared uninjured and in good health.

The investigation was then turned over to Humane Law Enforcement Officer Rebecca Seabrook. Her investigation resulted in criminal charges for Hollis and the dogs being removed from the residence.

A metal pipe similar to the one used in the abuse was found in Hollis’ residence, Fair said.

Hollis, 44, is charged with animal cruelty, failure to provide veterinary care, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

He was released on a summons with a future court date.

Anyone with information is asked to call Atlantic City police at 609-347-5766. Information may also be submitted anonymously via tip411 (847411), beginning the text with ACPD.
