Suspects wanted after fleeing second Cape carjacking in stolen vehicles

  • News

Two men are being sought in separate armed carjacking cases within an hour in Cape May County, police said.

Lower and Middle township police departments were investigating separate reports of two men brandishing a handgun Friday, when they connected the two cases.

Lower Township police were called to the 900 block of Irving Avenue at about 3:36 p.m. in the township's North Cape May section.

The victim said two men approached her, pointed a handgun and demanded she turn over the keys to her vehicle. She refused, and the men fled in what she described as a four-door gray sedan.

Police later identified it as a silver 2020 Toyota Camry reported stolen at gunpoint Thursday in Philadelphia. The vehicle a Pennsylvania license plate LTE6344.

Middle Township police were then called to the 2900 block of Route 9 in the Edgewood section of the township for a similar report at 4:34 p.m.

In that case, the victim said he was sitting in his 2018 Dodge Durango, when two men approached with one pointing a handgun and demanding the keys.

The man turned them over and the suspects fled: one in the man's vehicle and the other in the Camry.

Further investigation revealed that neither vehicle is currently in the area.

These incidents are currently under investigation by the two police departments and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.
