Man who fled to Puerto Rico after Atlantic City killing gets 25 years in prison

A Texas man who to Puerto Rico after fatally shooting a man outside an Atlantic City bar was sentenced to 25 year in prison Friday.

Frank Torres-Lopez, 27, killed 42-year-old Juan Matute-Figueroa outside Los Compadres Bar just after 3 a.m. Aug. 1, 2021.

Torres-Lopez fled, dying his hair orange and getting a fake identification/

He was arrested two months later by U.S. Marshals after a joint investigation that included the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit, Atlantic City police, Atlantic County Sheriff's Office, and law enforcement from Cumberland County, Texas and Puerto Rico.

Torres-Lopez pleaded guilty in December to aggravated manslaughter, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and hindering apprehension.

He must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence — or 21 years and three months — before he is eligible for parole. He is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
