Three indicted in fatal shooting of Mays Landing teen inside Atlantic City store

  • News

Three Atlantic City men have been indicted in the fatal shooting of a Mays Landing man inside a Pacific Avenue market last year.

Malik Galloway, 31, is accused of going inside the store brandishing a gun and fatally shooting 19-year-old Malae Johnson.

Malae Johnson, 19, was shot Sept. 25, inside the Pacific Food Mart at 1009 Pacific Ave.

Galloway and Laquan Rex, 30, were both indicted on charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Rex, who had been living in Atlanta, was behind the wheel of the minivan that drove Galloway to the store, surveillance video shows, according to the affidavit of probable cause obtained by BreakingAC. Galloway goes inside the store and, later, Johnson is seen walking passed the parked vehicle and into the store.

Galloway then comes out and sits inside the minivan with Rex for about a minute, the affidavit states. Galloway then goes back inside with his gun drawn and fires at least three rounds in Johnson’s direction.

Galloway runs back into the van, with Rex speeding off before the door even closes, the affidavit states.

Michael D’Arrigo, of Atlantic City, was also wounded, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Amari Rex, whose age was not released, was indicted on one count of third-degree hindering apprehension or prosecution.

Galloway, who also was indicted on weapons offenses, faces the possibility of life without parole if convicted. Laquan Rex faces 30 years to life.

Both men remain in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

Amari Rex faces three to five years for his alleged part. He is not in the jail.
