A former Margate firefighter was sentenced to 96 months in federal prison for his part in a conspiracy to bilk health care benefits out of millions.
Thomas Sher, 50, of Northfield, took his case to trial, and was convicted in September of one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud and three counts of health care fraud son.
About 46 of the 50 charged have pleaded guilty in the conspiracy, including Sher's brother Michael and John.
Michael Sher testified against his brother and is awaiting sentencing. John Sher was sentenced to 37 months in April.
A Camden firefighter was also sentenced Wednesday to 24 months in prison.
Christopher Broccoli, 51, of West Deptford, pleaded guilty last July.
The conspiracy enlisted state and local government employees to receive medically unnecessary compound prescription medications, causing the pharmacy benefits administrator to pay out millions.
Sher directly received about $115,000 from the scheme.
The judge also found that he obstructed justice when when he lied during his trial testimony and when he attempted to tamper with witnesses and devise a cover-up story in advance of trial.
Broccoli received $150,315.
