Bicyclist seriously injured in Atlantic City Expressway accident

A bicyclist was seriously injured in a crash Sunday during the American Cancer Society Bike-a-Thon on the Atlantic City Expressway.

The bicyclist struck the rear of a pickup truck that was stopped in the right lane assisting another cyclist, according to initial information.

The crash happened at 12:22 p.m. at milepost 2.3 eastbound, Sgt. Philip Curry told BreakingAC.

The rider sustained serious injuries and was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus.

The Bike-a-Thon started in Philadelphia with the route entering the expressway in Pleasantville on the ways Stockton University's Atlantic City Campus.

The incident remains under investigation.
