A Galloway Township man was arrested after Atlantic City's surveillance center personnel allegedly captured him stealing items from a vehicle.
Michael Foster, 30, was seen taking the items from a vehicle parked on the beach block of Belmont Avenue at about 2:15 a.m. Thursday, and then walking to the Boardwalk, Lt. Kevin Fair said.
Officers Michael Kragh and William Luengas-Gonzalez located the suspect, who ran when they tried to talk to him, according to the report.
As he ran, Foster tried to remove articles of clothing to alter his appearance, Fair said.
Foster was captured with help from Officer Atiqul Islam in the rear of a residence in the beach block of Texas Avenue, Fair said. He was arrested without further incident.
Foster was first taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus as a precaution because he was breathing heavily and unable to respond to the officers after being apprehended, Fair said.
He was released from the hospital a short time later.
Foster had an active warrant for his arrest under an alias, Tyrone Foster, according to Fair.
The stolen items were recovered and returned to the owner.
He is charged with theft, obstruction of justice and hindering apprehension.
Foster was given a summons on that charge.
