Millville woman jailed in Galloway arson

  • News

A Millville woman is accused of burning a Galloway Township home in March.

Ada Gong, 35, was arrested last week on charges including arson in the fire that burned 419 Dennis Drive.

She appeared briefly via video from the jail Friday, where she heard the charges against her and was told the state had moved to have her held.

Gong was wearing a green so-called suicide gown.

A detention hearing is set for Thursday.

Gong allegedly poured an accelerant on a storage container attached to the home before setting it on fire, causing both the container and house to burn, according to the charges.

She also faces several counts of criminal mischief and a burglary charge for allegedly breaking into the home and stabbing the side of the bed with a knife.

She also manipulated the master bathroom toilet, causing water to overflow for hours, the charges claim. This caused flooding and ceiling damage.

Arson Investigators Sgt. First Class Kevin Welsh and Detective Fenil Gandhi deemed the March 7 fire suspicious.

Gandhi identified Gong as the suspect using a combination of forensic evidence and witness accounts, police said.

The Galloway Township Police Department thanked the Oceanville and Bayview fire departments, along with Fire Investigator Brittany Snyder from the Bridgeton Fire Department for their assistance with the investigation.

The public was also helpful in assisting the investigation, police said.
