A fire burned about 2,400 square feet of the Atlantic City Boardwalk and damaged a casino marquee Wednesday.
No one was injured, Fire Chief Scott Evans said.
Firefighters were called to the Boardwalk in front of Resorts Atlantic City at 3:48 p.m., Evan said.
Two fire companies were on the street at the time, allowing for a quick response, he said.
"The fire was contained very quickly," Evans said. "Damage was minimized compared to what potential was here."
The sushi bar was evacuated along with nearby Landshark and other nearby restaurants as a precaution, he said.
A second alarm was called as "the wind was pushing a huge column of smoke down Pennsylvania Avenue," Evans said.
The fire went up about 15 feet, burning half of the marquee sign and wall near Mukashi Sushi Bar.
Those inside Resorts were told to stay in place.
Evans estimated a 80-by-60-foot section of the Boardwalk was damaged. That will be closed off.
Engines 1, 2, 3 and 6, along with Ladder 1, Rescue 1 and Battalion 1 responded.
