Fire displaces Atlantic City family on Thanksgiving

  • News

A fire displaced a family of five on Thanksgiving.

Firefighters were called to the one-story home in the 1400 block of Absecon Boulevard to find fire coming out of the windows, Fire Chief Scott Evans said.

The family and two dogs were able to make it out safely.

One member tried putting out the blaze with a hose, but it had too many kinks in it, according to Evans.

The fire started in a bedroom, but the cause is unknown, Evans said.

A resident tried removing some of the laundry that had caught fire in a basket, he said. No one was injured, but that family member was coughing from smoke inhalation.

Engines 2 and 3 were first on scene and immediately attacked the fire, Evans said.

Two bedrooms, a hallway and a large front room were affected, he said. The home is uninhabitable.

The residents stayed with family Thursday night, and now are being aided by the Red Cross.

The source of the fire has not been determined.
