An Atlantic City man who allegedly snuck into City Hall last weekend and caused damage will stay in jail.
One of those was the theft of a vehicle he allegedly drove to a Wawa in Mt. Ephraim, Camden County. A receipt inside the car — which was recovered in Atlantic City 2½ weeks later — led to a Visa card in Ramadan's name, according to information previously reported by BreakingAC.
"Mr. Ramadan has been removed from establishments by ACPD on multiple occasions," the judge read from the affidavit of probable cause.
He was arrested Monday morning, but it was unclear when he first entered City Hall, Assistant Prosecutor Paige Cramer said, adding that it was over the weekend when the building was closed to the public.
A release put out by Lt. Kevin Fair on Monday indicated Ramadan entered the building Sunday.
Details of the damage have not been released. But Ramadan did allegedly relieve himself on a desk.
"That's really the biggest complaint here is that he kind of ransacked some stuff," defense attorney Kevin Moses said.
"Kind of ransacked some stuff?" the judge interjected. "He defecated on an office desk."
Tibbitt told BreakingAC that he had no ill intent toward the mayor, and instead was looking to draw attention to the homeless issue that had now entered the city's own building.
The current allegations are a lot less complicated than they have been presented, but the surrounding circumstances have turned it into "some kind of political fight," defense attorney Kevin Moses told the judge Friday.
"Well let's leave the politics out of it," Judge Patricia Wild said.
Instead, she focused on the long list of pending cases against Ramadan, and that — until now — they all resulted in him being released on summonses.
"At some point law enforcement had to say, 'That's it. We've had enough of this,'" the judge said. "And tha is what the court is now saying."
Ramadan tried to speak at his hearing, but Wild said she worried he would say something to hurt his case, and that she already had rendered her decision. He can appeal, she noted.
