Atlantic City man released pending sentencing in gun case

  • News

An Atlantic City man was released from jail after pleading guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm Tuesday.

Jai Ceaser, 19, was arrested after an investigation into a shooting incident Aug. 11, 2022.

Police were called to a residence on North Indiana after a bullet hit a window.

Video from a neighboring home showed Ceaser walk away after the shooting, and walk to the park across the street with a gun in his hand, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

It appears the shooting was accidental, Judge William Todd Miller said during the sentencing, indicating it was a gun being shown to others.

Miller talked of the dangers of guns, and warned that the incident could have turned out worse.

The judge granted the defense's motion to release Ceaser pending sentencing.

Attorney Durann Neil told the judge Ceaser recently lost one family member and had a cousin who was terminally ill.

Despite Assistant Prosecutor David Little's objections, the judge granted the release to Ceasar's mother, who was in the courtroom.

"You're the boss," Miller told her.

"Oh, he knows," the woman responded.
