An Atlantic City woman admitted Friday that she hired a 16-year-old to shoot a woman in 2019.
Rashanah Camper, 29, was set to go to trial this week, but instead took a plea deal that will recommend eight years in prison with no parole for 85 percent, or about six years and about 9½ months.
She paid Naim T. Madison $5,000 to shoot the woman, identified publicly only as D.M.
Camper also gave the then-16-year-old a handgun and drove him around the city to find the victim. When she saw D.M. in the area of Atlantic and Tennessee avenues, Camper told Madison "shoot."
Madison was waived up to adult court and previously pleaded guilty to first-degree counts of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder. His plea agreement calls for a seven-year term with about five years and 10½ months of parole ineligibility under the No Early Release Act.
Camper previously was released from the Atlantic County Justice Facility despite the the state's objection due to health issues.
But she was back in jail this past March, after incurring drug charges in Atlantic City and Pleasantville.
Camper had been a fugitive for months when she was arrested in Philadelphia on Sept. 11, 2019,
She was released in March of 2021, to receive chemotherapy treatments.
“It’s important to note the defendant was originally found to be a danger to society based on the attempted murder, and was released during COVID due to her cancer condition,” Laws told the judge.
Camper will remain in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending her sentencing, which is scheduled for Oct. 19.
