Atlantic City man admits to gun and drug offenses

An Atlantic City man arrested pleaded guilty to possessing a handgun and distribution-level cocaine this week.

Khalif Chambers, 20, was on probation when he was arrested Jan. 6, after police stopped a car matching the description of one involved in a shooting days earlier, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

When police stopped the vehicle, Chambers was in the passenger seat, and recognized by police, according to information previously released in court.

A K-9 was called, and indicated drugs were in the vehicle.

Chambers had about 30 grams of crack cocaine and 26 prescription Percocet pills, along with $900 in cash.

Police also found a silver handgun with an extended magazine loaded with hollow-point bullets under the passenger seat, which Chambers indicated was his, according to information released at his detention hearing in January.

Assistant Prosecutor Matthew Mills also alleged at that time that Chambers had ties to the Stanley Holmes Village gang.

Chambers now faces seven years in prison when he is sentenced Oct. 23. He would have to serve at least 3½ years before he is eligible for parole.
