Two people were able to get out after a Jeep got stuck in the water off Brigantine on Saturday afternoon.
Police were called to the area near the jetty at about 12:40 p.m., Detective Sgt. Jack Glasser told BreakingAC.
Officer Fernando Garcia and Special Law Enforcement Officers Ryan Mihlebach and Zachary Kramer arrived, according to the report. The two occupants were able to exit the vehicle safely.
Brigantine police took both occupants home, Glasser said.
The Jeep owner arranged for a private tow. It was recovered.
Resident John Foster pulled the vehicle out with his Jeep, he told BreakingAC.
The driver was a Marine who drove down to get pictures and then got stuck when "the tide came up very fast," Foster said .
"(The driver) was more than grateful to be helped," he added. "He thanked all, and addressed them all as ma’am and sir. Those involved thanked him for his service."
The Brigantine Beach Office of Emergency Management reminds the public that coastal storms bring dangerous conditions on the beaches and surf, said Glasser, who also is deputy coordinator for the OEM.
People are strongly cautioned against walking or driving on the beach during weather events, especially near water.
