An Atlantic City man released from prison this spring is back in jail after he allegedly ran from police with a handgun.
Devin Brown, 23, was released from prison May 3, after serving a five-year sentence on a gun charge out of Paterson, Passaic County, state Department of Corrections records show.
He garnered the attention of Atlantic City police after they received a call just before 3 p.m. Nov. 29, from his former girlfriend.
The woman told police that Brown entered her home in the 1300 block of Baltic Avenue, causing her to lock herself in the bathroom, Capt. Kevin Fair said.
Brown destroyed the woman's belongings while he was there, Fair said.
Police also learned that he had assaulted her the day before, according to the report.
Officers Michael Regalbuto and Glen Robinson saw Brown on Saturday in the 1500 block of Atlantic Avenue.
When he saw the officers, Brown started to walk away and then ran, Fair said.
Brown tried to get into a N.J. Transit bus, but the officers were able to wrestle him and place him in custody, according to the report.
He was found with a loaded handgun in his pocket, according to the charges.
Brown is charged with three counts of aggravated assault, along with terrorist threats, criminal mischief, unlawful possession of a weapon, obstruction of justice and resisting arrest. It is likely he also will face a count of possession of a handgun by a certain person.
He is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending a detention hearing.
