Woman gets 10 years for fatally striking boyfriend trying to take her to Mays Landing rehab

  • Crime-Courts

A Burlington County woman was sentenced to 10 years in prison for running over her boyfriend who later died.

Craig Everett had driven the woman to Recovery Centers of America in Mays Landing on Sept. 24, 2021, but she refused to go inside, according to the investigation.

Tina Lewis got into the passenger side of the car and climbed over the center console into the driver's seat.

Everett tried to get her out but — once he was in the passenger seat — Lewis drove away and made a right turn onto Atlantic Avenue.

Everett got out of the vehicle and started walking in the grass area on the shoulder, where Lewis ran him over.

Lewis stopped briefly, but then headed back to RCA, denying she knew what happened to Everett.

Her blood-alcohol level at the time was .22, close to three times the legal limit.

The investigation found Everett suffered numerous skull fractures, a brain bleed, and fractures to his rib, femur and pelvis.

He was pronounced dead four days later.

Lewis, now 35, pleaded guilty to first-degree aggravated manslaughter on Sept. 14 of last year.

The plea was open, meaning she could have faced a range of five to 30 years.

The state argued for 15 years, with the defense asking for a second-degree range of five years.

Lewis had no criminal history.

She was sentenced Thursday, and taken into custody. She is currently in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
