Atlantic City residents waiting to find out if their water is safe to drink were able to get clean drinking water after some in the community stepped up.
Naeem Khan, of Garden State Fuels, was giving away water at 1200 Bacharach Boulevard, across from the Atlantic County Civil Courthouse, Sunday morning.
The 500 cases were dispersed to several residents, some of whom took water to deliver to some of the homebound seniors in the area.
More water will be available starting at 3 p.m. in front of Indica Ink Tattoo at 2616 Pacific Ave.
The business will soon be home to Slamn Sammy's cannabis dispensary. Owners Gary Bozzini and Stephen Weiss will be giving out two bottles per person to every resident who comes out while supplies last.
"The city is in crisis, and we are here to do what we can," the partners said.
The Atlantic City Municipal Utilities Authority found out about an issue with the water system overnight into Friday, with the mayor announcing it during a 7 p.m. news conference.
Mayor Marty Small said he found out about the issue in an email at about 5:30 that night. The MUA had been working with the state Department of Environmental Protection before that.
The mayor announced Saturday evening that the city was cleared to test the water. A press conference for an update is set for 3:45 p.m.
Until then, residents are cautioned boil water before they drink it.
