An Egg Harbor Township man was released from jail Thursday, after pleading guilty to a gun charge.
Shron Stotts, 32, faces years in prison when he is sentenced April 4. He must serve at least 3½ years before parole eligibility under the plea agreement.
Stotts fled the Penny Point Park Apartments on Hingston Avenue last April, after he pointed a gun at a woman during a domestic dispute.
He already fled the scene when police arrived. But he left behind an article of clothing that contained a gray loaded 9mm semi-automatic ghost gun with a purple laser sight, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.
Stotts was wanted until May 21, after he was seen driving in the parking lot of Heathercroft Square, across the street from where the incident occurred. His attorney claimed he did not know he was wanted.
During a detention hearing a few days later, attorney Durann Neil denied his client possessed a gun.
At that time, Judge Nancy Ridgway ordered that he stay jailed, due to concerns related to the nature of the charges and a prior conviction in another domestic violence case. Stotts also served a four-year drug-related sentence.
But after he pleaded guilty Thursday, Judge Dorothy Garrabrant granted the defense's request that Stotts be released until his sentencing. The state objected.
