An Egg Harbor Township man who was wanted for making threats with a gun will remain jailed.
Shron Stotts, 32, fled the Penny Point Park Apartments on Hingston Avenue after police were called to a physical domestic dispute April 10, police previously said.
The victim told police Stotts pointed a gun at her and also punched her in the chest during the confrontation.
A Hamilton Township K-9 team located a loaded gun with no serial number as police searched for Stotts that day.
But defense attorney Durann Neil said his client has never possessed a gun.
"We vehemently deny my client had a weapon," he told the judge during a detention hearing Tuesday. "We vehemently deny my client was the aggressor at all."
Instead, he said Stotts was living with the alleged victim and was the primary caretaker for the family.
That's because he didn't know he was wanted, Neil said.
"The defendant alleges he didn’t know about the charges, but I find that hard to believe since the victim did go to police," Judge Nancy Ridgway said.
She said she had concerns with releasing Stotts, considering the nature of the charges and a prior conviction in another domestic violence case. He also had a four-year drug-related sentence.
Stotts will now remain in the Atlantic County Justice Facility as his case goes through court.
