Four Atlantic City residents are jailed in alleged drug distribution through two convenience stores in the city.
Several pounds of marijuana and psilocybin mushrooms along with about $42,000 in cash were seized.
Charles Butler, 46, and Tiarra Rodriguez, 35, were the targets of the investigation, Capt. Kevin Fair said.
Detectives raided their residence in the 1100 block of Adriatic Avenue, along with two businesses: The Afty at 204 S. Rhode Island Ave., and The Afty Express at 325 Atlantic Ave.
Butler and Rodriguez were taken into custody as they left their residences. Amir Butler, an 18-year-old family member, was also arrested, along with 38-year-old Angelo Jones.
Detectives recovered more than five pounds of marijuana and 3½ pounds of psilocybin mushrooms packaged for street sale, Fair said. Officer
The investigation was led by Detectives Nick Berardis and Chris Smith with assistance from the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office and the N.J. Division of Taxation.
Each faces various charges including possession, possession with intent to distribute and conspiracy.
All four are in the Atlantic County Justice Facility awaiting separate detention hearings set for Tuesday.
"I have four small children, is there anyway that I can be on a bracelet or anything," Rodriguez asked the judge before her first appearance via video from the jail Thursday. "I have little kids. Please, please, please."
But the central judicial processing judge explained that, once a motion is filed for detention, nothing can be done until that hearing.
