A former Atlantic County chief warrant officer allegedly accessed authorized data and forwarded it to a private email account after he no longer worked for the Sheriff's Office.

Timothy Reed, who also served as Brigantine's police chief for a time, is charged with a second-degree computer crime, according to court records obtained by BreakingAC.

Reed, 60, of Galloway Township, worked as director of community outreach for the Sheriff's Office under former Sheriff Eric Scheffler.

He left his position at the end of last year, before Joe O'Donoghue took over as sheriff.

Despite no longer working for the office, Reed accessed the Atlantic County email database and forwarded grant-related emails in excess of $5,000, the charge reads.

Reed could not be reached for comment. He does not have an attorney listed at this time.

Scheffler also could not be reached for comment. O'Donoghue declined comment.

The paperwork BreakingAC received had a blank affidavit.

Reed was charged on a summons and was not jailed.
