Donations sought for nonprofit's Juneteenth event in Mays Landing

  • Community

A local nonprofit is looking for donations to help with its third annual Juneteenth celebration next week in Mays Landing.

Agape Water International Safe haven — or A-WISH — plans its free event from 3 to 8 p.m. June 19, marking the day in 1865 when Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas to announced the Emancipation Proclamation that impacted more than quarter-million enslaved in the state.

A-WISH focuses its programs on youth and their families, targeting those ages 11 to 18.

The group is asking for donations that can range from gift certificates, baskets, products and services to monetary donations.

“Our goal is to raise funds to get our children ready for the next school year,” CEO Aseealah Davis explained. “Our nonprofit organization strives to inspire each child to find their purpose and be confident in the journey, even when faced with adversity. Together, with your support, we will absolutely succeed.”

Monetary donations can be made via Zelle to agapewater4@gmail.com.

Anyone looking to donate goods can call or text Davis at 609-418-3034.
