Kevin Wilson, 63, struck a car as it went through a green light at the intersection of Routes 54 and 40, just before 1 a.m. June 24, according to the charges
Ada Roman, a 36-year-old Vineland woman who was a passenger in the other vehicle, died as a result.
An investigation found that Wilson hit speeds of nearly 76 mph in the 40 mph zone, and was going 62.1 mph when the crash occurred, according to the state. His blood-alcohol content was .09.
Those factors are why the charge was the higher charge of manslaughter rather than vehicular homicide, Chief Assistant Prosecutor Seth Levy told the judge during a detention hearing in January, shortly after Wilson's arrest.
Indications that Wilson was going more than 30 miles an hour above the speed limit, was intoxicated and that the light had been red led to the manslaughter charge rather than vehicular homicide, Chief Assistant Prosecutor Seth Levy told the judge at a detention hearing Tuesday.
