Twinsies!
It seems great entertainment comes in twos this week. Since it’s the very last weekend before the season starts, it’s only fair that us locals can have double the fun before Memorial Day.
You can find fabulous things to do all around town. Imagine the staycation you would have if you went to Cardinal Bistro’s garden party on Friday, Bill Mahr at the Borgata on Saturday, and then stopped at Smithville’s Mayfest on the Village Greene on Sunday afternoon.
There are also two great duos, two fabulous foodie soirées and two '80’s takeovers.
So grab a date, your ride or die, your crew or head out into the wild alone and make some new friends.
Two hilarious and infamous partners are at Hard Rock.
Penn & Teller are back in Sound Waves Thursday and Friday night. I’ve seen them do their magic in Las Vegas and I’ve seen them at Hard Rock. Both times, they fooled me.
Last year in Sound Waves, one of my friends was selected to help with a daring trick that put Raymond Teller in his usual onstage peril. I put the chances of her being in on the illusion as about the same as her being Anonymous. Even though she did have a pretty big role in the trick. How did they do that?
Suffice it to say, you will be entertained.
Penn Jillette’s patter is on point after performing for decades. Teller’s silent communication is effectual and adorable. Mimes eat your hearts out.
Don’t worry if you have seats in the back. We were in the second row and still couldn’t figure it out.
If you want some lighthearted fun without a rabbit jumping out of a hat, Steve Martin and Martin Short are at Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena.
These two SNL veterans need no introduction as two-thirds of the stars in "Only Murders in the Building."
But if you are too young to have watched them on "Saturday Night Live," then your parents told you about them. Either way, they are both comedy legends.
Anchor Rock Club is hosting two Gen X- friendly events at their venue this weekend: a Rush tribute band on Friday and an 80’s Prom on Saturday.
Rush first took the scene in the mid-70s, and were still touring in 2013.
The Canadian group was known for philosophical lyrics and expert musicianship. Decide to go to this blast from the past courtesy of tribute band A Farewell to Kings.
“If you chose not to decide you still have made a choice.”
Were you one of the nerds that didn’t get asked to prom? Did your date slow dance with someone else? Did you get the hugest zit on your nose the night of? Did someone show up wearing the same exact dress?
The last one actually happened to me.
Well you can erase all those awkward teenage tragedies and get all pretty in pink for a cosmic do over at Don't You Forget About Me - An 80's Prom Night.
Enjoy a night of dancing to DJ’s while you dream about neon, big bangs and Jason Bateman. Did I just write that?
Somehow Reaganomics didn’t trickle down hefty cover charges.
Tickets to either of these shows are under 20 bucks, which is what going to a prom in the '80s cost.
So you are getting a bargain seeing as it’s 2024. And I can’t say enough about the character of the Anchor Rock Club space.

Early next week is for the food lovers in town to get together to sip, savor and get cookin’ at two back-to-back charitable events.
Tuesday is the immensely popular Let’s Get Cookin’ (Formerly Men Are Cooking).
Although going by a more inclusive name, this is the same friendly cooking competition with both amateur and professional chefs competing at Showboat to raise money and obtain bragging rights.
Guests can try delectable dishes all while supporting the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City.
There will be drinks, savory dishes, desserts and raffles. Ticket holders even get to enjoy free parking at Showboat.

If you are looking for something more casual, head to Vagabond Kitchen & Tap House for Sip, Savor and Support on Wednesday.
You can get a pair of tickets at a $10 discount. So definitely grab a plus one for this one. You’ll be contributing to Cancer Support Community New Jersey at Gilda's Club when you do.
I attended this group’s last event at Island Water Park in March, and let me tell you, those raffle baskets were on point! I hope to be lucky again on the 22nd and keep my winning streak alive.
You’ll enjoy food and drinks here too. Plus, you’ll rock out to the signature sound of Chelsea Rae and The Rescue.
Trust me. Chelsea can belt!

Remember in an earlier BreakingAC article that a tax expert told us a portion of these types of events can be written off. Have fun now and consult your tax professional about it next year. And keep those receipts!
Deuces everybody!
