LET'S GET COOKIN'

Good food for a good cause at Atlantic City Boys & Girls Club event

  • Community

Did you know that Atlantic City has had a Boys & Girls Club serving the community for over 50 years? This organization is a well-rounded good citizen maker if there ever was one.

We aren’t talking about a couple of basketball courts providing a place to go hang out after school. Of course there’s plenty of fun. But there’s also everything from hospitality training to a STEAM lab. The programs at ACBGC seem endless.

There are so many things going on, the club needs three locations. There’s the Chelsea Club on North Sovereign Avenue, the Teen Center on North Pennsylvania Avenue and the Drexel Club on Drexel Avenue.

With summer about to begin, it’s time for parents to figure out how to keep their kids out of trouble while limiting their screen time. Don’t worry. ACBGC even has a summer camp.

The camp is $200 a week or $1,800 for the summer. If you have kids, send them. If you don’t, you can sponsor a child to attend weekly or for the whole season.

Recently, I got involved as a member of the steering committee for the club’s biggest fundraiser of the year – Let’s Get Cookin’. It’s no easy task saving the world. Here’s my argument for why you should attend.

It’s time to have fun giving.

Sure, it’s easy to go out to dinner, order a drink and veg out. But what’s hard is picking out where to go to do that. It can be painful:

“Where do you wanna go?”

“I dunno. Where do you wanna go?”

“Italian?”

“We had Italian last week.”

And so it goes.

You have the opportunity to have it all at the next fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City!

This celebration of professional and amateur chefs (50 in total) set out to wow the crowd and claim bragging rights over their friends and colleagues.

This week you don’t have to pick between different restaurants, you can have them all.

Tuesday you can hit a buffet like no other, at the Showboat. Plus, you’ll leave with a collectible cookbook of all the great recipes. All for $100.

Want to feel special? Buy VIP tickets and get an extra hour of fun, and a special seating area instead.

For the sports fanatics in our audience, you can be part of June Madness 2024 on June 7 to 9. Join the club for the second annual Chris Ford Memorial June Madness Basketball Tournament.

Root for favorites as they try to win the Club Cup.

You can buy a ticket to a game for $10. Or you can attend the opening night cocktail party for $100. There are also several levels of corporate sponsorships you or your company can sign up for.

If golf is more your speed, plan on going to the Atlantic City Country Club on Sept. 23 for Golf Fore Kids. If the event is half as good as that pun, you’re in for a great time.

Look for details at the ACBGC website.

Make sure to have the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City be a part of your summer down the shore. You’ll be glad you did.
