Fire damages Pleasantville business

  • News

Firefighters were able to contain a fire at a local business without damage to the surrounding area Friday night.

A fire alarm was reported at FBM Supply Company on West Delilah Road at about 9:23 p.m., acting Fire Chief Keven Vanegas said.

Acting Battalion Chief Stan Kolbe arrived to find smoke, with firefighters encountering heavy smoke throughout the building, the chief said.

An aggressive interior attack began with a coordinated response involving multiple mutual aid companies. Various resources were required due to the scale and complexity of the incident that included hazardous materials within the building, Vanegas said.

The fire was contained after a few hours, preventing further damage to adjacent properties.

One firefighter was treated and released at the scene for minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Pleasantville Fire Department Investigation Unit with assistance from the state Fire Marshal’s Office.

Further details will be provided as they become available.

The Pleasantville Fire Department extended its gratitude to the mutual aid companies that included Ventnor, Northfield, Linwood, the South Jersey Transportation Authority, Absecon and South Egg Harbor, along with Egg Harbor Township EMS, Atlantic County Hazmat, and Fire Coordinator.
