Man who broke into A.C. City Hall back in jail

  • Crime-Courts

An Atlantic City man accused of defecating inside a City Hall office last year is back in jail.

Sherif Ramadan, now 40, had 26 pending court matters when he was arrested inside the building Oct. 2.

He pleaded guilty to burglary in December, and was released pending a sentence that would have put him on probation.

But he wound up back in jail Friday, after he was found sleeping on the Boardwalk on Tennessee Avenue, and gave police a fake name.

"Mr. Tag" had an outstanding warrant for sleeping in public, according to the affidavit of probable cause obtained by BreakingAC.

He was then taken into custody but he Atlantic County jail refused to take him without proper identification, the affidavit states.

"Tag" refused to be fingerprinted. Then Sgt. Garry Stowe found his identification inside his belongings, identifying him as Ramadan, the arresting officer wrote.

Ramadan was charged with hindering by giving a false name and refusing to submit to fingerprinting, and sent to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

During his first appearance on Monday, Ramadan was told his case would go back to municipal court and the judge was releasing him.

But the saga did not end there.

It turns out, Ramadan had two additional warrants for failure to appear in court, including skipping his April 29.

He also failed to show up for a pre-indictment conference in a pending case.

While Ramadan did not show up for his court dates, he allegedly kept showing up to places he was not welcome, court records show. There are at least six new complaints accusing him of criminal trespassing.

The crime is not new for him, according to what was said at his detention hearing in October.

“Mr. Ramadan has been removed from establishments by ACPD on multiple occasions,” Judge Patricia Wild read from the affidavit of probable cause before ordering him held at that time.

He was released about two months later, after pleading to the burglary. A condition of his release was attending an intensive outpatient program, or IOP. He also was under monitoring.

It was not clear what would happen with that plea agreement now. The plea did indicate that if he violated his probation, he would be subject to three years in prison.
