Ready, set ... summer in Atlantic City is a go

  • Things To Do

Cheers! It’s the start of the summer season.

If your boss lets you out early Friday, get to Resorts in time to meet the incomparable star of the long-running show Cheers — Mr. Kelsey Grammer.

He’ll be appearing as part of the 10th Annual Beach Ball Drop at 5 p.m.

A cloud of brightly colored beach balls in all shapes and sizes will cascade down upon revelers. Make sure to claim yours.

The Boardwalk in front of Resorts also will be jumping all day with activities and opportunities to grab a picture with Grammer, who has played the beloved Frasier Crane character for decades.

Season two of the reboot of Frasier just went into production this month.

If you are heading to town to gamble and not meet celebrities, start your quest off right by attempting to Putt Putt for Slot Cash! And if you win, you can buy a couple rounds at the grand opening of The Glitter Bar – Bar One’s theme for this summer.

There will be live music, a DJ and more at this free Boardwalk bash.

Thank you for your service. May I have this dance?

Anyone with a military ID can get free admission to Boogie Nights all weekend long at the Tropicana. So catch a Saturday night fever!

If you haven’t been, it’s a huge disco complete with light-up dance floor.

Themed dancers and celebrity doppelgangers are on the stage and roaming in the crowd to keep the party vibe grooving. If you are a fan of the 70s, 80s and 90s, this is your jawn!

A new dance view

Another option to dance the night away is The Balcony at Hard Rock. Haven’t heard about it? That’s because it opens this weekend at 10 p.m.

I had the opportunity to grab a sneak peak. I found the staff to be friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming. The DJ even played my wedding song at my wife’s request.

Locals will recognize the space as the old Daer Nightclub. Now rebranded to feature what The Balcony has over other clubs in the city – a private outdoor veranda with prime ocean views.

Located a short ride up the escalator from the casino floor, this venue is a private oasis. As you enter, you are met by a spacious dance floor surrounded by a large bar. High quality video screens immerse you in music.

Coat check and restrooms are easily accessible at the entrance too. There’s no fighting your way into a dark corner to find either.

However, the pièce de resistance and reason behind the moniker, is the spectacular view. A lengthy balcony offers stunning views of the ocean.

Now you can get a great selfie in front of the ocean anywhere down the shore. But few spots offer a night view, high atop the Boardwalk with the Steel Pier’s monstrous, 227-foot-tall, LED-lit observation wheel in the backdrop.

Visit before everyone finds out about this one. For VIP Reservations you can contact TheBalcony@hrhcac.com. Tell the VIP host I sent ya.

Hard Rock also has the big name in the game this weekend as far as headliners go.

Because the Heart Royal Flush Tour is making a stop in our beach town Friday night. There are still tickets available. As are a few Snoop Dogg tickets for June 1.

Never miss an opportunity to see legends in a small venue.

Eat up

Hey. Ya gotta eat right?

The Steel Pier Crab House is offering a seafood buffet Saturday through Monday. There’s lobster, shrimp and crab legs all right off the Boardwalk. You can dine indoors or out. Cocktail service is available.

It’s $50 for adults and $30 for kids.

Grab tickets for a specific day HERE.

Honoring Memorial Day

Don’t forget to pay your respects to the fine Americans that we honor this weekend by attending one of two services in Atlantic City.

On Saturday at 10 a.m., there will be a Memorial Day Ceremony at Jackson Avenue and the Boardwalk at the Saracini-O'Neill Atlantic City 9/11 Memorial.

Based on my attendance in past years, you can expect speakers, a flag-raising and a commemorative sand sculpture at the entrance to the beach.

With rain as a hazard for Monday, this is a better bet than trying to catch a ceremony on Memorial Day.

Although not necessarily plentiful, you will find street parking.

The Atlantic City Memorial Day Observance was moved to City Council chambers from Browns Park due to the rain forecast.

This year’s keynote speaker is Arthur Freeman, a retired member of the U.S. Air Force.

Welcome to Atlantic City! These are just a few of the events that are taking place all over town.

However you choose to enjoy your long weekend, BreakingAC hopes you have a splendid and safe time with friends and family.
