Atlantic City gives posthumous honor to major police supporter

A major supporter of the Atlantic City Police Department was posthumously honored as an officer this week.

Ryan Blatstein, son of Showboat owner Bart Blatstein, was remembered by the department and city.

“He would have been so honored,” Tower CEO Bart Blatstein said of his son who died this summer. “Ryan loved everything about law enforcement. He was always standing up for and beside the men and women of the ACPD and police departments across the country, that was his goal—to keep officers and those they serve safe. He consistently volunteered his time and raised money for law enforcement charities such as the Behind the Badge Foundation, which honors and aids officers who have died or suffered serious injury in the line of duty. Ryan’s support of the law was unwavering.”

That’s why Atlantic City Police Chief James Sarkos and Mayor Marty Small felt it was important to salute the man who loved, honored and supported the life of law enforcement.

Sarkos said Ryan may not have had the chance to hit the streets on a beat, but his passion for the law and to help others will live on.

“Take away a lesson from Ryan,” the chief said. “Live every day to the fullest, support your community and help make this a better world.”

The honor was presented to Bart Blatstein during the Atlantic City’s staff professional development event held at Showboat on Friday.
