A Mays Landing man has been charged in hit and run that badly injured an Absecon man and killed his dog.
Syed Hoque and his dog were struck shortly after midnight Saturday at the intersection of Highland Boulevard and Marlborough Avenue, police said.
Hoque, 25, was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The dog died at the scene.
A passing motorist alerted police after the driver fled the scene, according to the report.
Officers searched the area for a white Jeep, and found the vehicle.
Byron A. Jones, 52, was arrested.
This crash is under active investigation by the Absecon Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit in cooperation with the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.
Traffic was interrupted for about four hours.
Absecon police thanked Galloway Township police and the Absecon Fire Department for their assistance in the investigation.
