An Atlantic City teen is jailed after he allegedly stabbed a man Sunday night.
Police were called to the 2500 block of Atlantic Avenue at about 8:30 p.m., and found a 44-year-old city man suffering from a stab wound, Capt. Kevin Fair said.
Surveillance Center personnel were able to get a description of the suspect and put it out to officers, according to the report.
A short time later, Officer Jose Zamorano found Jerry Martinez several blocks from the scene, Fair said.
Martinez, 19, and the victim got into a verbal altercation before the attack, according to the charges.
Martinez is charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
He appeared in court briefly Tuesday, where he learned that the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office made a motion to have him detained.
"Am I getting released?" he asked Judge Carl Tripician.
"On Oct. 11, a Superior Court judge will make that decision," the judge replied.
Martinez seemed to have an issue understanding the process, asking if that meant there was no bail.
Public defender Christina Naughton told Martinez she would be meeting with him Wednesday or Thursday to discuss what to expect at Friday's hearing and prepare him.
Martinez will remain in the Atlantic County Justice Facility until at least that hearing.
