  • Public Safety

The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office is making sure local students are safe online.

The Community Outreach Team is visiting schools throughout the county presenting critical topics to students regarding internet safety, social media awareness, digital citizenship, social media branding, decision making and the consequences of online behavior.

EAch presentation is led by Prosecutor William Reynolds, who is joined by Community Outreach Director Shavonne Davis, Detective Keith Epstein, and Special Agent Richard Cornett.

Together, they work to engage with students on these essential and timely issues.

The team already has visited the Atlantic County Institute of Technology, Egg Harbor City Community School, Northfield Community School, Linwood Belhaven Middle School and Egg Harbor Township High School.

The presentations emphasize the potential dangers of social media, particularly the risks associated with certain apps and gaming platforms. The session are interactive and engaging.

Reynolds delves into difficult topics like sexting, sextortion, cyber bullying, teen suicide and social media addiction.

A key focus is placed on the mental health challenges that can arise from the overuse of mobile devices, helping students understand the broader effects of their digital habits.

The students also are provided with multiple resources for the students should they need help dealing with these situations.
