An Absecon man was arrested Friday, after Atlantic City police allegedly found a stolen gun during a car stop.
David Toney, 43, was stopped in the first block of South Kentucky Avenue just after 6 a.m., for several traffic violations, including failure to observe a traffic control device, court records show.
Officers Michael Regalbuto and Glen Robinson then found Toney had an active warrant for his arrest from an accusation of assault filed by a citizen in July, according to court records.
Toney was arrested, and ammunition was found in his pants' pocket, Capt. Kevin Fair said.
An investigation led to a warranted search of Toney's vehicle, where a loaded handgun and more ammunition was found, Fair said.
The handgun was reported stolen from Virginia.
Toney was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, certain person not to possess a weapon, possession of hollow-point ammunition, and receiving stolen property.
He has a previous conviction for receiving stolen property out of Atlantic City last year, court records show.
Toney was ordered held during a detention hearing Wednesday, and remains in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
